The National Magistrates' Association responds to Meloni: "Judges don't engage in politics; they follow the Constitution's mandate."

"Magistrates don't engage in politics; they do their job every day despite insults, intimidation, and a constant campaign of delegitimization that undermines the very foundations of our democratic state." The National Magistrates' Association (ANM) responded sharply to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni , who yesterday, in an interview with Tg5, said she saw "a political agenda surrounding some of the judiciary's decisions, particularly those regarding immigration issues, as if they wanted to hamper our work."
"Justice is administered in the name of the people. Judges are subject only to the law. This is stated in Article 101 of our Constitution, which is a cornerstone of our democracy," the judges' union emphasizes.
"The Italian judiciary," the statement concludes, "will continue to carry out its duties with profound respect for its constitutional mandate. There is no plan against the executive; to assert this would be to misunderstand how the separation of powers within the state works."
The Prime Minister also insinuated that there is a connection between the investigations and the separation of careers: "It is not lost on me that the justice reform is proceeding at a rapid pace and, let's put it this way, I have taken into account possible consequences."
